MCS has two Upper Elementary classes age 9 – 12, traditionally fourth through sixth grades. Both classrooms, have two certified Montessori teachers with students fourth through sixth grades. Upper Elementary students enjoy one of our newer buildings, equipped with a full kitchen and extensive outdoor areas for curriculum extensions.
Upper Elementary students arrive between 8:15 - 8:30 a.m. and are dismissed at 3:15 p.m. For those families who need a later pick-up, the Elementary Late Day Program is available until 5:45 p.m. Upper Elementary students begin with a morning circle, set goals, and then begin the work cycle. Specials classes take place throughout the day, with a few in the afternoons. Recess is daily after lunch. Popular recess activities include basketball, soccer, four square, and volleyball.
During the week, our Upper Elementary students participate in Art, Spanish, P.E., and Music classes with specialists. They enjoy many enrichment opportunities including field trips, community service projects, and overnight trips. Elementary students have a designated playground, basketball courts, volleyball court, sports field and track area to enjoy during recess and after school.
Upper elementary students have the opportunity to pursue personal interests in weekly studios with the Art and Music specialists. Elementary students have many opportunities to participate in After School activities as well. The current offerings for After School is found here.
