Montessori Community School welcomes children, ages 18 months through 8th grades, from all racial, ethnic and cultural backgrounds, family structure or sexual orientation. MCS maintains a balanced enrollment of age and gender in each classroom. Children with special needs will be admitted as space is available and when those needs can be met in a mixed-age Montessori setting with reasonable accommodations. Priority is given to returning students, siblings and transferring Montessori students. Siblings receive a 10% tuition discount. After these considerations, children are accepted from those in the waiting pool according to their stated program preference and long-term school goals.
Montessori Community School hosts admissions events throughout the year and accepts applications on an ongoing basis. Generally, applications received by February are considered for the following school year with new family interviews beginning in January and continuing through the spring.
All prospective families are invited to attend one or more of our Admissions Events, complete an Application and pay the accompanying, non-refundable application fee of $100 for the first child ($50 for each sibling) to begin the application process. Families who submit an application but are unfamiliar with Montessori methods are welcome to spend a morning in the classroom observing.
Once our current families return their contracts in early February, we are able to determine our openings for the following year. We will notify applicants of enrollment decisions by telephone. Contracts are extended through the mail and must be returned within 7 - 10 days to secure the spot for your child.
As applications are processed, parents and prospective students will be invited for an informational interview and urged to observe in classrooms to ensure that MCS is a good fit for their child. All forms are available for download in the Application and Forms area.
Parents of applicants to the Elementary grades (1st - 6th grades) are encouraged to observe the program, complete an application, and arrange for confidential teacher recommendation forms, progress reports, transcripts, and standardized testing scores to be mailed to MCS. All forms are available for download in the Application and Forms area. Following the receipt of this information, applicants and their families will be scheduled for an interview and a visit: two days for Montessori transfer students and three days for non-Montessori transfer students. A three-day visit assures that there is good reason to believe the applicant can transition successfully to a Montessori environment.
Parents of applicants to the Middle School are encouraged to observe the program, complete an application, and arrange for confidential teacher recommendation forms, progress reports, transcripts, and standardized testing scores to be mailed to MCS. Parents and students also complete separate questionnaires. All forms are available for download in the Application and Forms area. Following the receipt of this information, applicants and their families will be scheduled for an interview and a three-day student visit.
If applicable, parents of new students currently in a school setting, should download and send a Record Release Form to their child’s current school.
Each new family is required to pay a non-refundable Acceptance Fee of $1,200 at the time of enrollment. This is a one-time payment for each family regardless of how many children are eventually enrolled in the school or how long the family has a child enrolled.
