Montessori Community School has a wonderful history of giving from parents and friends. This generosity has enabled MCS to grow and build new facilities and spaces to meet the needs of our growing student population. Having recently completed our most successful campaign to date, the completion of a Fine Arts building, MCS is now poised to begin a new campaign to expand and improve our indoor and outdoor facilities throughout the extended campus.
Giving to either a capital campaign or and endowment represents the ultimate commitment to the future of the Montessori Community School. Gifts to these campaigns will be used to further our Strategic Plan in accordance with the Campus Master Plan.
The Campaign to Complete the Community was Montessori Community School’s $4 million expansion project. The Campaign has already resulted in a ‘green’ built Adolescent/Upper Elementary building, wetlands, natural habitats, enlarged sports fields, the Spark Center arts facility, and the acquisition of the 4-acre property that adjoins the school.
The Spark Center includes an art studio, music studio, teachers’ workroom, and elaborate transitional spaces opening to the outdoors. Indoor facilities underscore each child’s connection to the natural world, provide an aesthetically pleasing space, integrate energy conservation strategies, use durable, nontoxic materials, provide the highest quality direct and indirect natural light, and capture rainwater from rooftop surfaces.
Our outdoor wetland habitats improve water quality using green principles, nurture biodiversity (introducing novel and sustainable flora and fauna to the MCS campus), and address community concerns for storm water runoff by increasing our capacity to retain rainwater on site by 200 to 300 percent. The wetlands provide students with accessible living wetland laboratories.
