Join Our Culture of Philanthropy
Why giving matters:
Since 1980, MCS has thrived because of generous donors from our current school community as well as from alumni, their parents, and their grandparents. Along the way, a shared vision around a love of learning and joyful social growth has energized generous donations to MCS. Gifts come not only from those who benefit directly from what MCS has to offer, but also from those who willingly hold the door open for others they may never meet.
Community Culture:
The MCS culture of philanthropy is based on relationships. We build community relationships through active listening, a skill similar to the intentional observation used daily in our MCS classrooms. Through relationships we identify our community members' passions and values.
Philanthropy is an opportunity to act on our passions and values in support of organizations and individuals. Embracing a culture of philanthropy at MCS helps everyone achieve more, provides more resources, and strengthens our community.\
How can we grow our culture of philanthropy at MCS?
Ask yourself—how has someone else’s giving helped you? Maybe someone gave you a book that changed your outlook. Or did you receive a donor-funded college scholarship? For MCS, a stunning example is the audacious goal of a handful of parents back in 1980 – save their beloved Montessori Children’s House of Chapel Hill which was on the brink of closure. Thanks to the Montessori Partnership of Chapel Hill, the land for our current campus was purchased in 1982. The construction of two buildings—an administration building and a Primary/Toddler building—marked the beginning of MCS's vibrant campus. Without the vision and generosity of the Montessori Partnership families, our MCS community full of joyful learners would not exist.
MCS thrives on the dedication and support of parent and guardian volunteers. Assisting with our volunteer and engagement efforts is the FSO—the MCS Family School Organization. The FSO is instrumental in fostering a sense of community and service within our school. Through various initiatives, they enhance the overall experience for families at MCS and support our faculty and staff with monthly birthday celebrations, snacks in the teachers’ lounge, and treats such as lunch on professional development days. FSO meetings occur monthly and are open to all. Parents, guardians, and local grandparents participate.
School events, the family ambassador program, grandparent groups, outreach opportunities, and local partnerships all provide the opportunity for MCS constituents to get involved, collaborate, and contribute to school initiatives. MCS has a staff member dedicated to community engagement who helps foster positive relationships among and between students, families, staff members, alumni, and the surrounding community. Dedicated families devote countless hours to a wide range of activities. From serving on boards and committees to organizing social events, assisting with student performances, acting as class liaisons, working on outdoor gardens and landscapes, there's something for everyone to contribute.
